The Word of God has foretold that in the Last Days the Holy Spirit would be poured out upon all flesh.
It is absolutely evident, to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, and hearts to perceive, that the Church is living in the last of the Last Days, for the Holy Spirit is being poured out upon every kindred, tongue, tribe and nation.
With the out pouring of the Spirit upon all flesh, there has come a renewed emphasis on the Word of God. This is as it should be, for the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to quicken, energize, and illuminate the Word of God. “The Letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth life.” The Spirit is the life of the Letter.
One of the great facets of truth in God’s Word is that which pertains to the subject of Baptism: whether it be concerning the Baptism in or with the Holy Sprit, or Baptism into the Body of Christ, or Baptism in Water. The whole subject of Baptism is coming into focus more and more. It seems as if that which took place in the house of Cornelius under the ministry of the Apostle Peter is taking place once again; for, as Peter was preaching the Word of the Gospel, the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentiles who heard the Word, for they began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
When Peter recognized that God had baptized the Gentiles in the Holy Spirit, he commanded them to be baptized in water. The order here was the exception, not the general rule, in the Book of Acts, because other records show Water Baptism preceding Holy Spirit Baptism.
A repetition of this is taking place today in the main-line Denominations and untold numbers of believers are being baptized in the Holy Spirit.
However, the question of Water Baptism has to be faced. Is the order that took place in the house of Cornelius a valid order today for those who have had the like experience?
It is self-evident that the Spirit of God is challenging the Church as to the truth of Baptism, and will continue to focus in on all who desire to “make all things according to the pattern” as laid down in the Word of God for the establishment of the principles and practices of a New Testament Church in our day.
The Lord has purposed that He will build His Church according to His own will and plan, and each member of that Church must measure up to the Divine standard set forth in the Holy Scriptures.
